The Institute for Corpus Research at Incheon National University (Director: Injae Lee, President of INU) will jointly host an academic conference with the Korea Association of Secondary English Education (President: Chaegwan Jeong) and the Institute of Foreign Language Education at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Director: Hyunwoo Lim). The event will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, under the theme “30 Years of CSAT English: Diagnosis and Prospects.”
This conference is designed to reflect on the trajectory of the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) English section, now marking its 30th year since its introduction in 1994, and to explore the desirable directions for future education and assessment. It holds significance in diagnosing the impact of CSAT English on society and educational practice while seeking practical improvement measures for future generations.
At the conference, Professor Byungmin Lee from Seoul National University will critically examine the curriculum alignment and validity of CSAT English assessments. Professor Yongmyung Kim from Kyunguk University, who previously served as the CSAT English team leader at the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation, will review the changes over the past 30 years and offer insights into future challenges. Professor Jungeun Kim from Jeonbuk National University will analyze the nature and reality of so-called “killer questions,” and Professor Chaegwan Jeong from Incheon National University will discuss the classification of CSAT English question types and their limitations. These presentations will combine academic depth with practical perspectives, offering a balanced program.
Applications to participate in the conference will be accepted until October 14. Detailed schedules and registration methods are available on the Institute for Corpus Research at Incheon National University’s academic conference webpage (http://icr.or.kr/conferences) and the Korea Association of Secondary English Education website (http://kasee.org).
