Inquiry-Based Mathematics and Science Convergence Project
Incheon National University (President In Jae Lee) announced that its affiliated Institute of Infinite Imagination (hereinafter referred to as “the Institute”) successfully concluded the Inquiry-Based Mathematics and Science Convergence Project of the AI Convergence Education Center (hereinafter referred to as “the Center”) under the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education AI Convergence Education Institute, which was held from July 5 to August 23.
The Inquiry-Based Mathematics and Science Convergence Project has been conducted by the Center for three years. In this program, middle and high school students in Incheon form teams to experiment and explore mathematical or scientific phenomena they are curious about, or research topics they wish to study. The project is carried out over eight weeks under the coaching of subject-matter experts.
A total of 14 teams participated in this year’s project, exploring a wide range of research topics in mathematics and science, including “The Effect of Color on Heat Absorption,” “Exploration of Variables Affecting Changes in Sound Frequency,” and “Comparison of TLC Diffusion under Different Developing Solvent Conditions.” The program concluded with the presentation of research outcomes on August 23.
Participating students shared their reflections, saying: “The process of collaborating with peers who shared the same interests was itself a great learning experience. Although there were times when experimental results differed from our expectations, analyzing the causes and trying new methods allowed us to feel the true charm of science.” Another added, “Receiving direct feedback and guidance from professors and teachers helped us shape the direction of our research and clarified our career paths.” Others remarked, “The sense of pride when presenting research results filled with our passion and effort is something I will never forget.”
Soo Bong Choi, Director of the Institute (Professor of Physics at Incheon National University), stated, “In the students’ fearless pursuit of answers through constant questioning, I saw the bright future of Incheon. We will continue to strive to create opportunities beyond the classroom walls where students can freely expand their intellectual curiosity and grow into future talents.”
The Institute of Infinite Imagination at Incheon National University operates the Convergence Education Experience Center and the Star Bridge Center to expand opportunities for interdisciplinary education and foster future talent.
